The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

Our journey of corporate social responsibility started with a single decision - to make a difference!

Verifone India has been actively involved in the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives since 2016. In addition to our work with the Jyothi Foundation, we have driven a number of other programs with Indian youths as part of our CSR efforts.

Most recently, we adopted the Gullahatti Kaval Government School — a rural school 45 kilometres from the Verifone Bangalore office.

Gullahatti Kaval Government School is situated in a remote area next to the national forest and consists of 40 children aged four to twelve. There are only two teachers assigned to the school, as it is very isolated with limited public transport. Rural areas in India commonly don't have adequate infrastructure leaving teachers and students disconnected from city areas and their facilities. In addition, power outages are a frequent occurrence that often inconvenience school operations.

Improving infrastructure and more

To improve conditions at Gullahatti Kaval Government School, Verifone assisted the school on a number of infrastructure projects , like equipping the facility with energy-efficient and eco-friendly solar lights, as well as repairing existing structures. To enhance the student experience, we assisted in setting up a library, creating a play corner, and providing new audio/visual and digital educational equipment. These much needed additions have clearly made a difference at the school, evident by the joy and enthusiasm expressed by the teachers and students.

Furthermore, a group of the Verifone employees were thrilled to design uniforms for the children, along with shoes, sweaters and raincoats. The Verifone Bangalore office also organised a donation drive among staff to collect books for the library and toys for the kindergarten. An arts carnival is scheduled for September 2017 to showcase the new improvement to students and their families.

Bringing cheer to children

Most recently, the Verifone India team brought joy and excitement to more than 95 children from rural and city schools with an entertaining excursion to KidsZania Mumbai.

At the indoor theme park, the children immersed themselves in numerous first-hand, role-playing activities. They had the opportunity to participate in experiences with local establishments like the Bollywood Acting Academy, Pottery Studio and Dabbawalla food delivery service. It was wonderful to see children role-playing while developing real life skills, all in the name of fun.

A driving force

Verifone continues to lead by example when it comes to supporting local initiatives and giving back to society. We are committed to continuing our support of Jyothi Foundation, Gullahatti Kaval Government School, and more institutions in 2017. In fact, we are already in discussion with multiple schools in similarly remote, rural areas. One of those is a "bridge school" that aims to help facilitate the transition of underprivileged children into mainstream educational settings.

We look forward to expanding our social responsibilities and outreach activities through Verifone India.
