Chip Towle owns Towle’s Corner Store in Dixfield, Maine. He handles everything from stocking shelves to paying employees. He needs to know where his money is and when he can use it.
When he moved his business from branded to unbranded, he chose Commander Payments, payment processing designed to work with Verifone Commander for unbranded and convenience sites.
· Easier to check deposits: His Commander settlement total matches the money deposited in his bank account
· Funds the next business day: Under his payment arrangement, proceeds are available to help buy stock and pay employees
· Fees shown separately: His processing fees are billed the following month, making them easier to track
· POS and payments connected: He can follow payments through the store payments he already uses
· People he can reach: The Commander teams supporting his POS and payments answers his questions
Before the switch, card payments went through his fuel wholesaler. Processing fees were deducted, and the remaining funds were applied to his fuel invoices. Depending on the balance, Chip could owe more or need to request money back.
That made it harder to see how much money he had available.
“Where’s my money today? Where am I paying for things?” he recalls.
He wanted a clearer view of the money coming in and the bills he needed to pay.
Chip had used Verifone Commander technology since opening his store in 2007. He relied on Commander to record his store’s sales and knew the people supporting the solution.
When he needed processing for his unbranded site, that experience helped him choose Commander Payments.
“It just made sense to me because I trusted the Commander so much,” he says.
His decision also came down to confidence in the people behind the technology.
“When you get to the payment level… you want something that you can trust.”
Now, Chip checks his Commander settlement against the deposit in his bank account. His payment proceeds arrive the next business day, and processing fees are billed separately the following month.
“I matched that to my sales and I’m done. It’s very simple.”
Having those funds available helps him buy the next round of goods and pay payroll.
“Having the cash the next day obviously helps your cashflow,” he says.
He also has a clearer view of his processing costs.
“I always know exactly what the fee was for the month.”
Chip wants payments connected the system that records his store’s activity. In his experience, managing a separate payment terminal meant another process to settle.
With Commander, he values keeping those records together.
“It keeps your data aligned. It keeps everything aligned.”
For Chip, that connection makes everyday payment management more straightforward.
Chip values being able to reach the Commander teams supporting his POS and payments.
“The Commander Payments group has been great,” he says.
“They always answer,” he adds. “I always appreciate that.”
For an owner responsible for the whole store, knowing who to turn to matters.
