Contactless Single Tap + Online PIN (PIN Online)

Assumes each country will meet applicable Contactless Online PIN support.


The cardholder will have the same experience for high value transactions (HVT) and LVTs when authentication is required: cardholders will tap their cards on point-of-sale (POS) and enter their PIN code upon request.


The combination of an online PIN and single tap will allow contactless to become the preferred payment method for every face-to-face transaction for any amount.

Mandatory support of PSD2 requirements for Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) AND 3DSV2.


PSD2 applies to all electronic payments - including proximity, remote and m-payments - within the European Economic Area (EEA). The SCA mandate is complemented by some limited exemptions that aim to support a frictionless customer experience when transaction risk is low.

DCC Markup Transparency

Region: EMEA

European Central Bank (ECB) regulation to increase transparency of currency conversion charges, for Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) providers as well as for non-DCC providers (payment service providers).


The currency conversion charges, for both PSPs and DCC providers, for all card-based payments should be expressed as a percentage mark-up over the European Central Bank’s latest available euro foreign exchange reference rate(s).


DCC providers must disclose information on their charges in a clear and accessible manner the payer shall remain free to refuse DCC and use non-DCC for the transaction.


Payers’ Payment Service Providers must make the information on their DCC charges easily accessible on electronic platforms.
