Planet: Environmental Compliance & Sustainability

Verifone supports efforts to minimize the environmental impact of our products, operations, and supply chain. We work with our suppliers and manufacturers to reduce waste and implement sustainable practices throughout the product lifecycle.

Product Design and Production

Verifone has incorporated environmental requirements into our product design processes to address new and existing regulatory requirements, as well as, customer specifications. Environmental considerations in product design include material substitution to remove substances of concern, and energy efficiency design for power supplies. We also work with our contract manufacturers to ensure production processes comply with applicable environmental requirements, including use of unleaded soldering paste and RoHS compliant material handling procedures.

Quality and Environmental Management

Verifone’s contract manufacturers share our commitment to sound quality and environmental management practices and maintain ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certifications.   Additional information is available on the Assurance page of our Customer Support Portal.  Click here and select Quality Management Systems to learn more.

Chemical Safety

Verifone works with our suppliers and contract manufacturers to comply with applicable legislation that restricts hazardous substances, including the European Union's (EU) Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive and the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical Substances (REACH). By limiting the use of hazardous substances and certain heavy metals in products and packaging, contamination from electronic waste is reduced.
Verifone monitors the hazardous substance lists and requires suppliers to report and disclose the presence of RoHS and REACH designated substances to Verifone. Verifone uses an external and independent laboratory to test new products prior to release to confirm that hazardous substances are absent or below identified thresholds. A Declaration of Conformity detailing compliance with relevant directives and specifications is included with each product delivery.

Packaging

Verifone supports efforts to reduce waste and toxic materials in packaging. As part of our sustainability efforts, suppliers provide declarations of conformity regarding the levels of heavy metals (e.g., lead, mercury) in packages and packaging material. Verifone also works with our contract manufacturers to reduce packaging waste, to increase use of recyclable materials and to remove ozone depleting substances from packaging materials. Additional information is provided on the Declaration of Conformity and as marked on package materials.

E-Waste & Recycling

Verifone shares the global concerns over electronic waste getting into landfills, causing contamination of ground water and creating other environmental issues.

The European Union’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, is implemented through national regulations in all EU member states, as well as in Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.

The WEEE Directive requires producers of electrical and electronic equipment to finance the takeback and recycling of products placed on the EU market after August 13, 2005. In compliance with this Directive, Verifone products are labelled with the crossed-out "wheelie-bin" symbol, indicating that the product was placed on the market after August 13, 2005 and that end users should separate the product from other waste at end of life.

Verifone supports the aims of the WEEE Directive to improve the environmental management of electrical waste, to reduce potentially harmful effects of hazardous substances, and to contribute to a circular economy.

For Verifone products sold within the EU, please refer to your sales agreement or contact your local sales representative (from whom you purchased the product) for proper disposal instructions.

For Verifone products sold outside the EU, please contact your local municipal waste company for proper disposal instructions. They will help you dispose of these terminals in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
