A New Target For Cyber Criminals

Think your POS data is safe? Think again. According to a recent report from Trustwave, point-of-sale devices are among the most targeted for fraud attacks. 87% of breaches were traced back to incorrect POS installations.

"In the past two years, 36% of PCI DSS compliant merchants reported data breaches, faring slightly better than non-compliant merchants – with 38% of non-compliant merchants reporting breaches."

It's not just multinational businesses that are the focus of attacks either; small businesses have now become the main target. Visa Inc., a global payments technology company, estimates that about 95% of the credit-card data breaches it discovers are small business customers.

Add a company you can trust to your line of defense against hackers and cyber criminals.

VeriShield Total Protect End-to-End Protection

Unlike traditional payment security that only encrypts the data using SSL encryption, as soon as payment information is read, VeriShield Total Protect, secured by RSA, encrypts the Primary Account Number (PAN) within the payment device and keeps it encrypted until it is decrypted at the processor or wherever the decryption appliance is maintained.

Once the transaction has been approved, tokenization takes security to the next level by replacing the PAN with a random string of tokenized data, which is sent back to the merchant along with the authorization code. In the event of a data breach, the data looks like regular transaction data but is completely useless to thieves. And since the PAN has been replaced with a format preserving token, merchants can store and re-use it for returns, chargebacks and more—all without violating PCI requirements or having to modify existing systems and applications.
