The Best of Both Worlds
VeriFone's VeriShield Total Protect relies on sophisticated, format-preserving, end-to-end encryption together with card-based tokenization from RSA. It completely eliminates clear-text cardholder data and other sensitive data elements from the retail environment, while enabling retailers to easily handle reconciliation, chargebacks, loyalty awards, and more.
In addition, the solution is usually implemented with minimal changes to a retailer's existing point-of-sale (POS) infrastructure or store procedures.
Flexible end-to-end encryption
On VeriFone POS devices, VeriShield Total Protect encrypts sensitive card data from card swipe to processing using either a format preserving form of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) or an asymmetric encryption method developed as part of the public key infrastructure (PKI) developed by RSA. This effectively protects cardholder and transaction data, while enabling bank and issuer identification numbers to remain untouched for bank services.
Tokenization takes it further
Tokenization further refines the process by seamlessly replacing the card number with a token value that cannot be cryptographically linked back to the original data element. This token is returned to the merchant along with the authorization message. Merchants can safely store the token value, rather than the actual card number — minimizing their risk and potentially reducing the size of the cardholder data environment.
