As a key member of the R&D team, System Engineer ensures that the modules within the system and from cross disciplinary teams (EE, OS and SW) works together to meet the product specifications during development phase. With the system overview, he also supports sustenance phases of products by providing system level analysis to identify root cause of failures in the field or during production run.

Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Product Development Phase:
    • Review overall system specifications and ensure requirements are met at system level during the initial concept phase.
    • Work with architecture team to translate architectural block concepts into key modules and components based on product family/range requirement to reduce diversity within the same product family.
    • Provide documentations and feasibility study at system level.
    • Work with OS, SW, EE and ME teams to ensure all modules and interfaces amongst them are agreed, well defined and documented.
    • As the overall system integrator, provide development/bridging code to support hardware bring-up.
    • Help team to escalate technical risks, bottleneck to program manager and management when necessary.
    • Coordinate and facilitate technical discussions between sites and disciplines, include overall system testing and QA plan.
  • Sustenance Engineering:
    • Support field return/product failure analysis by identifying possible cause of failure based on knowledge and overview of system operations.
    • Provide firmware support when needed to help to isolate functional block during failure analysis.
  • Ensure hardware design changes and implementation at Contract Manufacturer (through ECO process) is well managed and communicated among MPE, SQE, Suppliers and CMs for seamless transition into production and shipment.
Required Knowledge and Experience
  • BS or MS degree in EE or SE with at least 10 years of engineering design experience particularly with cross engineering discipline experiences.
  • Real Time OS embedded system design experience, familiar and able to develop firmware for diagnostics and hardware bring up purposes.
  • Possess a good understanding of the key building blocks/modules of embedded system and how they work together as a system (ME, EE and SW).
  • Good understanding of general phases of product development life cycle, from product conceptualization to mass production.
  • Experience working in a distributed engineering group, working with in-house and external staff and outsource model.
